The Siskiyou Initiative is a non-profit, non-discriminatory organization, consisting of a group of Waldorf teachers and parents committed to maintaining, promoting and supporting Waldorf education in the Rogue Valley of southern Oregon.

In the fall of 2000, the Siskiyou Initiative formed out of a desire of parents and teachers to continue their children's education when the long-standing Waldorf school officially closed. At that time, several of the classes chose to form independent groups and directly hire their teachers while new, pre-elementary classes formed to satisfy the demand for early childhood programs.

With over 100 children currently enrolled in Waldorf-inspired classes, the Siskiyou Initiative seeks to strengthen the community by promoting communication among these independent classes and groups. To this end, the Siskiyou Initiative organizes parent education evenings, gatherings and fundraisers, and publishes a biannual newsletter.

In addition, we are working to purchase a site for a new school and to create a first grade and two kindergartens for the fall of 2003. Remembering Rudolf Steiner's belief that the children are the curriculum, we are committed to remaining open and flexible in order to truly meet the needs of today's children."
